Hello!! Welcome to my first foray into the world of blogging!

I’m looking forward to boarding the Holland America Lines’ Volendam in Vancouver, Canada on September 27 to begin a 58-day dream cruise to the South Pacific. The ship first heads south along the western coast of the US, calling on San Francisco and San Diego, then takes a hard turn starboard to Hawaii – 5 days to get there and 5 days touring. Then, we head south for 33 days of plying a vast expanse of the South Pacific Ocean in a counterclockwise direction and visiting 17 islands along the way. We wave goodbye to Nuka Hiva in French Polynesia on November 15 for a 6-day “full steam ahead” passage back to San Diego. The ship’s course is shown below.

I’ll be posting my blog here on WordPress. The blog will include a narrative log of the cruise, my thoughts and impressions along the way and select photos and videos. I hope to SCUBA dive on most of the islands, so with some luck, I’ll have some underwater shots to share as well. I won’t be posting every day, just on those days when I have onshore internet access.
